Car, tractor-trailer carrying pigs collide on I-81 in Wythe County

At 7:51 p.m., Tuesday (Jan. 30), Virginia State Police responded to a crash on Interstate 81 at Exit 77 in Wythe County. A tractor-trailer and passenger vehicle collided in the southbound lanes of I-81. The impact of the crash caused the tractor-trailer to overturn. There is at least one injury involved in the crash.

The tractor-trailer was loaded with livestock. State police have arranged for veterinarians to respond to the scene to assist with treating any pigs injured in the crash and assuring the pigs’ safe containment and transport from the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
