Flood warning: Claytor Lake level to be lowered by Apco

In preparation for Hurricane Irma, Appalachian Power Company (Appalachian), licensee for the Claytor and Byllesby/Buck projects, will be lowering the reservoirs in order to accommodate the anticipated higher inflow on the New River.  Specific plans are currently as follows:

During the month of September, Appalachian operates the Claytor Project between the 1845 and 1846 foot-elevation contours.  Beginning on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 0800 hours, Appalachian will begin to reduce the elevation of the reservoir one foot per day until the reservoir reaches the elevation of 1842 at 0800 hours on Monday, September 11, 2017.  Appalachian will continue to monitor the forecasts, and if necessary, may reduce the reservoir to 1841 by 0800 hours on Monday, September 11, 2017.
