Let there be lights … in July!

If you have had the joy of driving around our community during the Christmas holiday in search of Christmas light displays, you’ve probably visited the dazzling DAK Lights Show on Pine Grove Drive in Dublin.

The award-winning light show, started in 2010 by David Kinder, runs nightly from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Eve; and has grown more spectacular every year.  From humble beginnings (five or six bushes and several wreaths), Kinder explains that the light show has expanded to currently using LED lights that are capable of producing millions of color combinations and designs.  The family friendly light show experience is enhanced by music from radion station 103.9 fm.  The music is a mix of traditional, country, pop, and includes artists such as Mariah Carey and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Because the DAK Lights Show is so popular, there may be 20-30 cars weaving through the residential dead-end street, making parking and navigation difficult.  To resolve the parking issue and provide a more enjoyable experience, DAK Lights Show is researching new locations in Pulaski County.

“The traffice situation is the impetus for relocating the DAK Lights Show to an area within Pulaski County having easy access and ample parking.  With the upgrades, it has simply become too big and too popular to continue in our small neighborhood,” Kinder comments.

To enable the relocation to happen before Thanksgiving this year, Kinder has launched a Kickstarter Crowd Funder effort to help cover the anticipated costs of electrical upgrades at the new location.

The light show requires about 100 amps at 120 volts maximum capacity.  For those unfamiliar with crowd funders, the recipient (DAK Lights Show for example), sets a targeted amount of funds they need for a project; and individuals or corporations can contribute funds toward that project.  If the targeted amount of funds is not reached within 30-days, then the recipient does not receive any funds; and the contributed funds return to the donors.  DAK Lights Show is hoping to receive $14,000 in funds by Wednesday, July 25th.   Kickstarter contributions can be made at:  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/daklights/dak-lights-2018

“Although there are other holiday light shows in the New River Valley area, people have to travel outside the county to see them.  We want to provide this (holiday light show) entertainment and stay local within the community that has supported us,” says Kinder.
