McCready re-elected chairman of Board of Supervisors

Massie District Supervisor Andy McCready was re-elected Chairman of the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors Monday evening during the board’s annual re-organizational meeting.

This will be McCready’s second term as chairman, and this term lasts for one year.

McCready’s selection, however, was not automatic.

Draper District Supervisor Dean Pratt opened nominations for chairman by nominating Cloyd District Supervisor Joe Guthrie for the position.

Robinson District Supervisor Charles Bopp followed that by placing McCready’s name into nomination.

Guthrie’s nomination failed on a 3-2 vote with Bopp, McCready and Ingles District Supervisor Ranny O’Dell voting “no.”

A vote on McCready’s nomination followed, with all five supervisors voting in favor of McCready being named chairman.

Monday night’s meeting – held at the New River Valley Business Center in Fairlawn – also yielded a new vice chairman for the board.

Pratt was elected to serve for one year as Vice Chairman of the board.

His selection was also not automatic.

Pratt’s name was placed into nomination by Bopp, who had served the past two years as Vice Chairman.

O’Dell then nominated Bopp for another term.

However, Bopp then withdrew his name from consideration and Pratt was elected on a unanimous vote.

The board’s regular meeting for this month will be held Jan. 29 in the County Administration Building on 3rd Street NW in Pulaski beginning at 7 p.m.
