Obituary for Harrison W.  Hobbs

Harrison W.  Hobbs of Pulaski, Va. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, September 30, 2017.  He was born June 29, 1923 in Campton, Kentucky.

Mr. Hobbs loved his trucks and working in his garage and was known as “the water man” in the county, a nickname he acquired because he hauled water in tankers to fill cisterns, swimming pools, and ponds.  He also retired from Burlington Mills in Radford, Va.

Mr. Hobbs was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leona Kate Hobbs, and by his parents, Preston and Chloe Hobbs of Kentucky.  Also preceding him in death are a brother, Eugene, and sisters, Mavis Collier, Thelma Lumpkins, Marie Collier and Fern Barks.

He is survived by his son and best friend, Clarence W. Hobbs and his wife Pat of Pulaski and by his daughter Diana Bell and her husband David of Carlisle, Pa.  He is survived by his treasured granddaughters, Karen Barker of Dublin, Va., Kim Reid of Pulaski, Va., Jeanette Wilson of Wilmington, NC, Deanna Clippinger of Mechanicsburg, Pa. and Virginia Weller of Newville, Pa.  Three great-grandchildren survive including Michael and Nicole Wilson  of Wilmington, NC and Jenna Barker of Dublin, Va.  His surviving sisters are Geneva Kiser and Reva Chappell.  A special sister-in-law, Frances Weaver, of Anchorage, Alaska also survives.

His funeral and a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 14 from 3:00 – 6:00 at Highland Park Community Church.  The family wishes to thank his wonderful caregivers, Dr. Matthew Skewes, Dr. Steven Goldstein, the staff of Highland Ridge Rehab Center, ER staff and Dr. Bradley and nurses at LewisGale Pulaski Hospital.
