The Burlington Royals beat the Pulaski Yankees 10-6 on Monday night in the rubber match of the three-game set. The Royals moved to 9-15 while the Yankees fell to 17-8.
Burlington’s bullpen held the Yankees in check. Relivers Collin Snider and Jordan Floyd combined for four shutout innings. Snider earned the win to put his record at 2-0.
Yankees relief pitcher Abel Duarte (2-1) took the loss. In 1.2 innings he surrendered four hits and three earned runs.
Seuly Matias led the way for the Royals picking up two hits and four RBI.
The pinstripers took a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd. Steven Sensley led off with a walk and Eric Wagaman doubled to left to put runners in scoring position with no outs. Ryan Lidge sent a bouncer back to the mound that caromed off Royals starter Carlos Hernandez’s glove which allowed Sensley to score to make it 1-0.
Sault Torres followed with a single into right which scored Wagaman to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead. Danienger Perez walked to load the bases.
Eduardo Torrealba kept the rally alive with a double into right field that scored Lidge and Torres to open up a 4-0 lead. With two outs Dermis Garcia beat out an infield hit which allowed Torrealba to score from 3rd for a 5-0 Yankees advantage.
The Royals cut their deficit to 5-4 in the top of the 3rd. Burlington loaded the bases with no outs to begin the frame. Matias hit a ringing double off the left field wall to clear the bases and came around to score when Lidge sent an errant throw into leftfield.
Wagaman led off the bottom of the 3rd with a solo homer over the leftfield wall to put the score at 6-4.
The Royals added another in the top of the fifth. Michael Gigliotti ripped a double a doubled down the right field line and was chased home by a Jesison Guzman single to make the score 6-5.
Burlington loaded the bases in the top of the 7th. With one out Matias singled to right to score Jesus Atencio to tie the game at six apiece.
Dennicher Carrasco sent a two out base hit into left that chased home Benji Cash and Gigliotti to give Burlington and 8-6 advantage. Dallas Martinez took over on the mound to stop the bleeding and got Cal Jones to go down swinging to end the frame.
The Royals tacked on another run in the top of the 8th. Oliver Nunez opened the inning with a bunt base hit and Atencio doubled into the right centerfield gap to score Nunez and extend Burlington’s lead to 9-6.
Reed Rohlman scored on a sacrifice fly from Atencio in the top of the 9th to give the Royals a 10-6 lead going into the bottom of the 9th.
Floyd nailed down the Royals 10-6 win in the 9th allowing just one hit. The Yankees hit the road for six games before returning home on Monday, July 24th. First pitch is slated for 7 pm.
