16-year-old found dead in burned home in Max Meadows

Wythe County logoOn March 19, 2023, shortly after 9:00 a.m., first responders received a call about a house fire located at 379 Brower Lane in Wythe County.

When first responders arrived on the scene they found 3 people that had vacated the burning structure. They were informed that a 16-year-old male was still inside the burning residence.

Once the fire was contained they located a body believed to be the 16-year-old male.

Virginia State Police was called to the scene to investigate the fire.

The body is believed to be Daniel Busha, age 16 from Wytheville, Virginia. The body was taken to the Medical Examiners’ Office in Roanoke, Virginia for identification.

First Responders from the Max Meadows Fire Department, Barren Springs Fire Department, Ivanhoe Fire Department, Lead Mines Rescue Squad, Virginia State Police, Wythe County Emergency Management, and Wythe County Sheriff’s Office responded to this incident.

A 17-year-old female was treated for lacerations from a glass window while escaping the burning structure. An adult is being treated for smoke inhalation.
