2019 Season shows promise for Adaire Theatre

Adaire Theatre is keeping the momentum going. The theatre company, in its eighth year, made some changes to the business plan, and they seem to be paying off.

“We decided to add more shows to our season lineup. It was a leap of faith, but the support has been tremendous,” said Kendall Payne, founder of Adaire Theatre.

Adaire Theatre recently wrapped up its summer camp. The campers worked hard for a week learning songs and choreography for their performance of “James and the Giant Peach.” Payne says something happened the day of the performance that he didn’t expect.

“When we saw the line to get into the theatre space all the way down the stairs and out the doors onto Main Street, I just couldn’t believe it! It blew my mind! I was so thankful!” Payne said.

“I think it’s just a testament that what we’re doing is making an impact. The same passion we bring to the stage every time we perform, is the same passion our audiences have in seeing us. It’s a rewarding feeling,” said Keith Patrick McCoy, associate artistic director.

Payne and McCoy say there’s no stopping now. There’s still plenty of shows left to see in the 2019 season.

“Our actors are doing a phenomenal job. They show up ready to put on a great show, and for them to see audience after audience excited about seeing our shows, makes every performance all the better,” McCoy said.

Adaire Theatre is gearing up for its next performance, “Legally Blonde The Musical.” It’s about a girl named Elle Woods who charms her way into Harvard Law School just so she can win her boyfriend back.

“The musical is based on the movie, that many may have already seen. But, if you haven’t, let’s just say Elle isn’t what many would consider, by looking on the outside, someone who is fit for law school. That’s the beauty of this story. Along the way, Elle realizes her full potential,” Payne said.

McCoy says the show is face-paced. He created the choreography and says they held a boot camp before official rehearsals started just to make sure all the actors have the stamina they need to keep going through the show.

“The boot camp was fun! We definitely made sure they’re whipped into shape,” he said.

Adaire Theatre’s production of “Legally Blonde The Musical,” will take place two weekends. August 16-18, and August 23-25. Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday shows will start at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10. All shows will take place at the Pulaski Elks Lodge.

Payne and McCoy say they’re ready for more sold out shows.

“I believe we can do it. This is how we keep our community thriving,” Payne said.
