Laura Walters has been named to a second term as Chairman of the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors.

She was selected unanimously Wednesday night during the annual organizational meeting of the board.

It was during the 2022 organizational meeting last January when Walters was first selected as chairman – thus becoming the first woman chairman in the county’s history.

She was selected as chairman that night following the announcement by former chairman Joe Guthrie that he would be leaving the board to accept a position in newly-elected Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s administration.

Walters’ name was placed in nomination by Robinson Supervisor Jeff Reeves. The nomination was seconded by Massie Supervisor Mike Mooney.

Reeves and Mooney also offered the motions to give Draper Supervisor Dirk Compton his second term as Vice Chairman.

Both Walters’ and Compton’s terms are for one year.

In other action Wednesday, the board again selected Ashley Edmonds as Clerk of the Board and Markie Saunders as Deputy Clerk.

County Attorney Tim Kirtner was again selected as the board’s Parliamentarian.
