Pulaski man arrested for assaulting police officers
May 15, 2018, at approximately 5:21 P.M., a report was made to the Pulaski Police Department that a man was attempting to enter the vehicles of people that were traveling on Washington Avenue near the train station.
The individual succeeded in getting into the back of a pickup truck but soon jumped out. He next succeeded in entering a passenger vehicle.
Officer M. A. Dunford arrived at the scene and attempted to have the individual exit the automobile. At that moment, the individual attacked the officer, striking him about the head and body.
A retired Pulaski County Deputy Sheriff and a Pulaski County Animal Control Officer witnessed the altercation and assisted Officer Dunford until additional Pulaski Police Department personnel could arrive.
The individual, after multiple applications of less lethal techniques to control him, continued to assault, batter, and resist the officers until he was finally subdued and placed into physical restraints. Two police officers received minor injuries with one being examined at the Pulaski Lewis-Gale hospital. The individual was transported by ambulance to the hospital as well.
The subject arrested during this incident was identified as Andrew P. Hatmaker, a white male, 30 years of age, of Pulaski. He is charged with five counts of assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, tampering with a vehicle, possession of marijuana, and public intoxication.
At the time of this bulletin, he had not been released from the hospital.

Well, that explains a lot. I was leaving the Farmer’s Market and while driving through the intersection at the post office heard a commotion. A man was walking down the street yelling at top of his lungs as some guy driving away in a pickup truck. Thought it pecular, but figured was somebody just spouting off much other than

oops, hit post too soon…here’s the rest.
I figured someone was just spouting off rather than being beligerent. I’m sure of which officers were involved. While walking to my vehicle to leave I passed a town officer and a retired deputy I’ve known for years at the train station. Poor guys were having a nice evening with the crowd and had to deal with that nut job 🙁 Glad the officers didn’t get badly injured.
