Town of Pulaski reports chemical spill at pump station near Critzer Elementary

At 8:28 a.m., the Pulaski County Regional Emergency Dispatch Center received an alert of a chemical spill located at a Town sewer pump station in the vicinity of Critzer Elementary School.

Upon arrival, first responders reported approximately 50 to 100 gallons of hydrogen peroxide had leaked from an onsite chemical storage tank while being filled by a third-party contractor.

While there was no immediate threat to the surrounding residents and elementary school, the officials with the Pulaski County School System including Critzer Elementary School have been notified and advised to remain indoors as a precautionary measure.

The chemical spill has been fully contained and clean-up process is underway. At this time, there is no evidence that any contamination to nearby streams or groundwater has occurred.

All necessary state agencies have been notified and the State Hazardous Materials Team is in route to assist with the full clean-up, which is anticipated to take several hours.

First responders included fire departments from Pulaski, Newbern and Draper as well as REMSI, the Pulaski Police Department and Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office.
