Obituary for Doris Lee Pratt Surface
Doris Lee Pratt Surface, age 95 of Pulaski, died Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born in Ceredo, West Virginia on September 18, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Ruby Workman Pratt and the late Victor Lewis Pratt.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pulaski. She enjoyed working in the garden and nurturing her flowers and eliminating every weed. She traveled on numerous trips with Sherry and Robbie Linda and Posey, Dorothy and Lonnie. She loved to crochet and knit; she made numerous quilts for all children and grandchildren. She and her husband loved to make and refinish furniture. Working puzzles and playing cards gave her much pleasure, especially when she would beat Robbie and Harry. She took care of many neighbors for years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Harry Surface: sister; Iris Jean Arthur and brother-in-law, Don Arthur: sister Alice Douglas and brother-in-law, Junior Douglas: nephew Lloyd Douglas and stepmother; Dorothy Pratt Napier.
She is survived by a brother, Lewis Pratt and his wife Vanessa: sister; Virginia Lois Pratt Gower; daughter: Linda Payne and her husband Posey; granddaughter Sherry Boone and her husband, Robbie; Grandson: Mike Payne and his wife Reyn and great-grandchildren: Campbell, Elise and Anderson; daughter: Nancy Ridley and her husband Dennis; grandson: Bo Ridley and his wife Holly; and great-grandchildren; Bryce, Josh, Jackson, and Ava; grandson; Justin Ridley and great-granddaughter: London; brother-in-law: Earl Surface and his wife Elizabeth. Nieces: Donna Sue Vanhoose and Alice Jean Carley; and nephews: David Allen Douglas and Gary Arthur.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 25, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home, with Pastor Terrie Sternberg officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, one hour before the service. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
