Akers named new PCHS hoops coach

Pulaski County Public Schools (PCPS) and Pulaski County High School (PCHS) are pleased to announce that Mr. Anthony Akers has been named the next head coach for the varsity boys’ basketball program.
Mr. Akers, a 1988 graduate of PCHS and current Pulaski County Boys’ Middle School (PCMS) basketball coach will be coaching both at the middle school and high school level until a replacement can be found for the PCMS basketball program.
“I am extremely honored to serve in this capacity in a great community that I dearly love,” Coach Akers said. “Pulaski County has been nothing short of wonderful to me and my family throughout my entire life. It is a privilege to serve alongside so many great people that positively contribute to the betterment of our community. I look forward to working with our players and existing staff to enhance our basketball program. Thank you Pulaski County School System and all of Pulaski County for the confidence you have placed in me. Go Cougars!”
PCPS is also excited to announce that Mr. Rajai Hines will be continuing in his role as the PCHS boys’ varsity basketball assistant coach, which provides this basketball program with a strong, talented, caring and knowledgeable coaching team.
Mr. Scott Vest, athletic director at PCHS is pleased with the hires. “We look forward to the leadership that Mr. Akers will provide to our program and are excited about our student-centered coaching staff!”
Mr. Rob Graham, Superintendent of Pulaski County Public Schools agreed with Mr. Vest.
“We are grateful for the commitment that Coach Akers and Coach Hines have made in the past and are certainly appreciative of their willingness to continue serving in their roles this year with our talented student athletes in this program. With their combined leadership, we look forward to a successful year both on and off the basketball court!”
