Tennessee man dies in I-81 crash
Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on Friday (Aug. 8, 2025) at 6:00 a.m. on Interstate 81southbound at the Virginia-Tennessee Stateline.A 2012 Cadillac SRX was driving southbound on Interstate 81 in the center lane when it was unable to avoid a pedestrian that was in the lanes of travel.
The driver of the Cadillac did remain on scene and was not injured.
The pedestrian, Monty D. Bishop, 67, of Kingsport, Tenn., died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation

i truly hope this was an accident and it was no way avoidable because so often things can be avoided and folks do it on purpose just because the other person happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. which i hope wasn’t true. lots of evil in this world.

Why was he walking on the Interstate in the first place. Hate to say it but he brought it on himself.

True, it’s not legal to walk on or along side the interstate. I’m sure there are a few valid reason, but they’re few and far between and it’s a poor idea no matter what.
Possibly this man’s car had broken down and he made the decision to cross over rather than stay with the vehicle. It’s also possible he had a medical emergency and didn’t know what he was doing, or had mental issues of another sort.
A family member who loses their life this way is very, hard on their family not to mention the driver who has to be traumatized.

ok i think we’ve established its illegal to walk on the interstate.. but can some of you ‘nice people’ take a moment to feel sad for the victim? a human being died!!!
