Fort Chiswell pounds Bland, 93-39

The Fort Chiswell Varsity Boys Basketball Team traveled to Bland on Wednesday night for an early season Mountain Empire match-up and came out victorious, 93-39.

The Pioneers were led by Owen Jackson’s double-double 11 rebounds and a game high 37 points on 16 for 27 from the floor and added five assists. His partner and good friend, Kenton Sutphin, also had a good night for the Fort as he poured in 27 points on 11 for 18 from the floor with four assists. Jessie Ayers also broke double figures for the Fort for the first time in his young career.

Bland showed some early fight as the Pioneers only led 22-14 after the first period behind a strong performance by Gavin Lance who finished with 13 points overall but it wouldn’t be enough as FC outscored the Bears 28-12 in the second and 25-9 in the third to put the game away.

With the win the Pioneers improve to 2 wins and 1 loss on the year with Lancaster coming to town on Saturday.
