Ronald Dale “Ronnie” Alexander

September 17, 1944 – July 21, 2026

Ronald Dale (Ronnie) Alexander, of Riner, VA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 21, 2026.  Born September 17, 1944, in Crab Orchard, WV, Ronnie was a proud 1962 graduate of Dublin High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lee, Sr. and Vida Lawson Alexander; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thomas Herman and Hazel Chrisley Smith; his brothers, Barry and William Lee, Jr. (Bill) Alexander; and his niece, Holly Hubbard.

Ronnie’s memory will be cherished forever by his wife of 60 years, Charlotte Smith Alexander; his sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Rena Alexander of The Villages, FL, and Kevin and Bethany Alexander of Knoxville, TN; and his six grandchildren, Avery Alexander of Knoxville, TN, Adisson and Ryan Wright of College Station, TX, Aiden Alexander, Atlee Alexander, Amacher Alexander, and Annabelle Alexander, all of Knoxville, TN.  He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol Jean and Donnie Sweeney of Roanoke, VA, and Vicki and Bobby Cruff of Yantis, TX; his sister-in-law Judy Alexander of Pulaski, VA, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and John Regnier of Salem, VA; along with several beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends and family.

For 50 years, Ronnie was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Radford, VA.  He served his church in numerous roles, including deacon, choir director, usher, member of the missions committee, and co-director of the Pioneers senior group.  Ronnie’s greatest joy in life was witnessing his two sons and six grandchildren accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and follow through with believer’s baptism.

Ronnie began his working career at the age of 15 at Western Auto in Pulaski, VA.  He later graduated from New River Vocational Technical School.  Following his marriage in 1966, he and Charlotte moved to Newport News, where Ronnie worked as a draftsman for the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company.  He returned home in 1972 to build a life as a local businessman, purchasing the Sealtest ice cream distribution center and later the Farris Brothers Dairy in Newbern, VA.  Following his retirement from the ice cream business in 2003, Ronnie began a 20-plus-year career working alongside his son in the financial services industry.

An avid sports fan, Ronnie cheered for local high school teams and the Virginia Tech Hokies, attending countless games over the years.  After supporting his two sons throughout their sports careers, he was able to enjoy watching his grandchildren play basketball, baseball, golf, volleyball, soccer, tennis, and ice hockey.  He was also one of his granddaughters’ biggest fans, finding immense joy in hearing them sing during church services over the years.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 2008 Preston St, Radford, VA followed by a service celebrating Ronnie’s life at 3:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, VA, following the service.
