VA Deed Alert to Help Protect Property Owners from Deed Fraud

Pulaski County, Virginia — The Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court for Pulaski County has joined the deed alert system developed by the State. Pulaski County property owners may enroll in VA Deed Alert, a free, voluntary notification service designed by the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia (OES) to help Virginians protect their property from deed fraud.

 

VA Deed Alert allows residents to receive electronic notifications whenever a document is recorded in the local land records that matches their name or Tax Map/Parcel ID number. These alerts can provide early warning of potentially fraudulent activity, such as unauthorized deed transfers or filings.

The service does not prevent documents from being recorded, nor does it validate the legality of a filing. Instead, it serves as an additional layer of awareness, enabling property owners to review activity related to their property. Upon receiving an alert, the person can come to the office to review the public record filings that triggered notice. They can then determine if they need to contact an attorney for any legal advice.
