Mandatory Water Use Restrictions for the Town of Pulaski

pulaski vaDue to the continued lack of rainfall and ongoing drought conditions, the Town of Pulaski is declaring a Drought Emergency in accordance with Section 86-129 of the Town Code and the New River Valley Regional Water Supply Plan’s Drought Response and Contingency Plan.

 

Current water levels at Gatewood Reservoir have reached the threshold requiring the implementation of mandatory water conservation measures. Section 86-129 of the Town Code establishes a Drought Emergency when the reservoir reaches twenty (20) feet or more below full pond. During this phase, mandatory conservation measures are imposed to prevent depletion of the Town’s water supply.

 

Effective immediately, all Town of Pulaski water customers are required to discontinue non-essential water use. This includes, but is not limited to:

 

  • Watering lawns, gardens, and ornamental landscaping
  • Washing vehicles, except where necessary for public health or safety
  • Washing sidewalks, driveways, streets, or other paved surfaces
  • Filling or refilling swimming pools
  • Other outdoor uses of water that are not necessary for health, safety, or essential operations

 

The Town may also implement additional conservation measures as necessary to preserve the remaining water supply. The Town Code authorizes the Town Manager to determine and enact additional water conservation measures during a water supply emergency based on reservoir levels, available storage, drawdown rates, projected water supply, consumption, weather conditions, fire service requirements, and other factors affecting the Town’s water supply.

 

The Town will continue to closely monitor Gatewood Reservoir levels, weather conditions, water consumption, and other factors affecting the Town’s water supply. Mandatory restrictions will remain in effect until conditions improve and the water emergency is determined to have ended in accordance with the Town Code.

 

The Town understands that these restrictions may create hardships for res-idents, businesses, and other water customers. However, these measures are necessary to protect the community’s remaining water supply and ensure that adequate water remains available for essential residential, commercial, fire protection, public safety, and other critical needs.

 

We appreciate the cooperation of all residents and businesses as we work together to conserve our water resources during this drought emergency.
