Community Health Center of the New River Valley Earns Four National Awards for Quality, Access and Innovation
CHRISTIANSBURG, VA — August 10, 2026 — The Community Health Center of the New River Valley (CHCNRV) has received four national Community Health Quality Recognition awards from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The honors recognize CHCNRV’s achievements in clinical quality, heart health, access to care, and the effective use
of health information technology.
CHCNRV received the Health Center Quality Leader–Silver Badge, placing it among the top 20 percent of health centers nationwide for overall clinical quality performance. The recognition is based on outcomes across a broad range of clinical quality measures and reflects the organization’s continued commitment to
providing effective, patient-centered care.
The health center also earned the National Quality Leader–Heart Health Badge. This distinction recognizes health centers that meet or exceed national benchmarks in areas such as controlling high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease prevention, tobacco-use screening and cessation intervention, and appropriate use of statin
and antiplatelet therapies.
CHCNRV received the Improving Health Care Access Badge for demonstrating meaningful growth in the number of patients served or the availability of services while also achieving strong clinical results. The award reflects the organization’s ongoing work to make medical, dental, behavioral health and other essential services more readily available throughout the New River Valley.
The Advancing Health Information Technology for Quality Badge recognizes CHCNRV’s effective use of technology to improve care. Qualifying health centers demonstrate capabilities that include offering telehealth, exchanging clinical information with other providers, engaging patients through technology, and collecting information about patients’ health-related social needs.
“These awards reflect the extraordinary work of our entire team and our shared commitment to the people of the New River Valley,” said Michelle Brauns, MS, APR, Chief Executive Officer of CHCNRV. “We are especially proud to be recognized for expanding access while maintaining high standards for clinical quality. Whether we are helping patients manage heart health, using technology to coordinate care or finding new ways to reach people who need our services, our goal remains the same: to provide excellent, compassionate care to every patient.”
HRSA’s Community Health Quality Recognition badges are awarded annually to eligible health centers based on the most recent Uniform Data System reporting period. The 2026 awards reflect performance reported for 2025.
