Bobcats Shutout Maroons in Season Opener

WYTHEVILLE – Radford’s Bobcats hit the road to open up their football season Friday night as they traveled to George Wythe High School and came away with an impressive 40-0 victory.

Radford quarterback Peyton Dobbins threw three touchdowns and passed for 210 yards. They also rushed for 209 as they had 419 total yards of offense.

Trenton Carter caught five passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns.  Pace Prioleau rushed for 50 yards, scoring a touchdown on six carries. William Dehart-Lewis scored one rushing touchdown on six carries and finished with 44 yards. Backup QB Blake Blair had one carry for a 55-yard score. Grant Keister caught one pass for a 26-yard touchdown strike.

The Bobcats got on the scoreboard with 5:04 in the first quarter as Carter caught a 41-yard pass from Dobbins for the TD. They would recover a George Wythe fumble and score again on a 30-yard scamper from Prioleau, with Luciano Pugliese’s kick making it 14-0.

before intermission, with Carter catching a 19-yard pass from Dobbins. While the extra point was blocked, Radford went into halftime up 20-0 as they had 265 yards to the Maroons’ 100 total yards.

The third quarter saw Radford score with 10:57 on the scoreboard as Dehart-Lewis rammed his way in from one yard. Pugliese’s kick was wide left, and it was 26-0 Bobcats.

They would score again in the third quarter as Keister caught a 26-yard pass over the middle of the field for a touchdown from Dobbins. Youseff Elhady, a freshman, would split the uprights to make it 33-0.

The Bobcats would score one more time as third-string quarterback Blake Blair took the snap and took off up the middle, then broke to his right as he raced 55 yards to paydirt. This time, Cameron Hope would hit the point-after to make the final, 40-0.

Head coach Michael Crist of Radford said, “The last two years, George Wythe was more physical upfront, but the guys decided that wasn’t going to happen tonight. This was a total team effort. I thought Dobbins (Peyton) played well for us, and we got most everyone some action. Our mindset tonight was we got to go and get it done tonight.”

George Wythe was led by backup running back Ryan Wolf. He had 57 yards on nine rushes. Cade Bralley, the Maroon starting QB, had 51 yards on 13 carries; Caden Golliher had 15 rushes for 49 yards. Ryan McBride caught two passes for 32 yards. The Maroons only had 30 yards passing.

Radford will be on the road again next week as they go to Pearisburg to take on the Giles Spartans. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm.
