Colby Gill awarded inaugural Sgt. Perry Hodge Memorial Scholarship
The Pulaski County Public Schools Education Foundation (PCPSEF), in partnership with P.C. Hearts Behind the Badge, officially presented the first annual Sgt. Perry Hodge Memorial Scholarship to Colby Gill. The presentation took place on the field at Calfee Park prior to annual Pulaski County Guns and Hoses Charity Softball Game.

The endowed scholarship honors the life, 15-year service, and legacy of Sgt. Perry Hodge. He was a former Pulaski County Sheriff’s Deputy and School Resource Officer (SRO) who tragically lost his life in a vehicle accident in 2021. Established by P.C. Hearts Behind the Badge and managed by the Pulaski County Public Schools Education Foundation, the award supports graduating Pulaski County High School students pursuing public service paths.
Colby Gill, the son of Brandon and Julie Gill, is the inaugural recipient. While attending Pulaski County High School, Gill consistently achieved honor roll status. He actively participated in student government, soccer, swimming, band, and SkillsUSA.
Outside of his academic achievements, Gill dedicates his time to community service. He volunteers at Community Life Church, serves as a certified lifeguard, and volunteers with his local fire department. He is attending New River Community College (NRCC) this fall while also taking EMT classes at Radford University Carilion, with ultimate career goal of becoming a full-time firefighter. In his free time, Gill is also an avid event and sports photographer.

“Sgt. Perry Hodge dedicated his life to protecting our community and lifting up the students of Pulaski County,” said Chris Stafford, Executive Director of PCPSEF. “Colby Gill carries that exact same spirit of service. From his academic achievements at PCHS to his active volunteer work with the fire department, Colby is already making our community a safer, better place. We are incredibly honored to award him this inaugural scholarship as he takes his next steps toward becoming a full-time firefighter.”
