State Police investigating fatal crash in Carroll County

State Police logoCARROLL – Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday (Sept. 1, 2026) at 6;45 a.m. on Route 620 (Lambsburg Road) in Carroll County.

 

A 2015 Nissan Ultima was travelling northbound on Route 620, near the intersection with the on and off ramps to Interstate 77, when the Altima crossed the center line and struck a Peterbilt tractor trailer head-on.

 

The driver of the Altima, Peyton C. Ray, 18, of Eagle Springs, N.C., suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.  Ray later succumbed to those injuries.

 

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

 

The crash remains under investigation.
