Pulaski County Boys Take Runner-Up at Giles Invitational; Carroll Leads Girls

PEARISBURG — Between late-summer heat and a grueling climb on the back half of the Giles course, Wednesday’s Spartans Invitational was an early-season test of determination and toughness.

Pulaski County had a strong showing, with runners finishing near the front to earn a second-place team finish in the boys’ race and three top-seven finishes in the girls’ field.

The Cougar boys tallied 39 points, finishing eight points behind first-place Eastern Montgomery (31).

Sophomore Cecil Black and senior Jonah Morgan set the tone, with Black crossing fifth and Morgan right on his heels in sixth. Sophomore Xander Sargent followed in 13th, sophomore Mason Hayes placed 15th and junior Daniel Eubanks finished 18th to complete Pulaski County’s scoring five. Senior Landon Clark was the sixth Cougar across the line in 24th.

On the girls’ side, Pulaski County was one runner shy of posting an official team score, but the four who ran made their presence felt near the front.

Senior Dani Carroll led the Cougars with a fourth-place finish, followed closely by freshman Brianna Farmer in fifth and sophomore Nina Bucey-Card in seventh. Freshman KayDee Decker rounded out the squad in 12th, giving Pulaski County four runners in the top dozen.

Pulaski County returns to action Saturday, Sep 12, 2026 at the Knights Crossing XC Invitational at Green Hill Park in Salem. The meet is held on a fast, all-grass course.
