PEARISBURG – The Radford Bobcats went on the road for the second straight week and, for the second straight time, shut out their opponent. Radford scored four touchdowns in the second quarter as they manhandled the Giles Spartans, 48-0.

Pace Prioleau got the Bobcat scoring going as he sneaked in from one yard out with 7:22 remaining in the opening quarter, but the point-after kick was wide left.

The Bobcats would explode in the second quarter, scoring four times on four possessions.

William Dehart-Lewis would power his way in from three yards, and Luciano Pugliese’s kick would put the Bobcats up 13-0.

After stopping the Spartans with their stingy defense, Radford would score at the 6:42 mark as Trenton Carter took the handoff and raced 60 yards for a score, and it was 20-0.

Radford would score on their next possession when Dehart-Lewis this time bulled his way in from two yards out to up the Bobcat lead to 27-0 with 3:53 showing before halftime.

Their defense would once again stop the Giles running game and force another punt. This time, Carter would field the punt on the Spartans’ 48-yard line, brake to his right, and raced 48 yards for the punt return touchdown. The point-after would make it 34-0 as Radford would take that score into intermission.

The second half would then see Radford quarterback Peyton Dobbins throw a 68-yard strike to Carter to up the score to 40-0. Cameron Hope would then kick the point-after for a 41-0 lead with 10: 53 in the third quarter.

Playing reserves, Radford stopped the Spartans on defense and forced another punt. Matthew McGuire would catch it at the Spartan 46 and race down the Bobcat sideline to paydirt. Youseff Elhady came in for the point-after kick and split the uprights with 7:22 showing in the third quarter, as the running clock was ticking away.

For the game Trenton Carter would score three touchdowns, one on a run, one on a reception, and the last one on a punt return. He caught three passes for 83 yards and rushed for 50 more. Dobbins threw for one touchdown and passed for 145 yards.   Reserve running back freshman Ryker Guedes rushed for 56 yards on eight carries, all in the fourth quarter.

Radford had 349 total yards while their defense limited the Giles Spartans to just 50 total yards and just three first downs.

Giles was led in rushing by Michael Wilson, carrying the pigskin nine times for 35 yards. Nate Steele had six carries for 18 yards.

Radford’s defense had 13 tackles for lost yardage.

Bobcat head coach Michael Crist said, “Last year Giles was more physical than us up front, and we had to be more physical tonight, and we were. This was a team effort, and I’m proud of how we played.” He then remarked, “Credit the kids tonight, and our defense really performed as well as our offense and special teams.”

Giles head coach Sam Wright said, “Radford is a really good team. Coach Crist has a fine club, and they’re going to be a hard out. They’re fast and athletic.”

“We got some injuries and got three more hurt tonight. Nobody is going to feel sorry for us, and we have to re-group.”

Radford will have a bye next Friday and will be on the road at Galax on Friday, September 18. Giles will host the newly formed Southern Gap High School next Friday with a 7 pm kickoff.
