Capital needs list presentation to be made at Tuesday school board meeting

PC Public SchoolsStaff Report

The Pulaski County School Board will meet Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. for its regular monthly meeting for September.

Among the agenda items will be a presentation from Jess Shull, Director of Facilities, on capital improvement needs in the county’s schools.

At the board’s August meeting, it was requested by one board member that Shull present the capital needs list at the September meeting so school board members will have information to pass along to citizens planning to vote in November on a 1 percent sales tax question on the ballot.

Voters in Pulaski County will decide whether or not to enact a 1 percent increase in sales tax locally, with money raised by the tax going strictly for capital improvements in the school system.

The school board member said in August she had gotten questions from citizens about whether the new tax is needed, and what exactly the money from it can be used for.

According to agenda information, Shull’s capital needs list includes a 10-item “school board” list totaling just over $7.5 million. Included in the list is replacement of water piping at Dublin Elementary, installation of a rubberized track at the high school ($1.2 million), repaving of the parking lot at Dublin ($750,000) as well as painting of exterior doors at Dublin and Critzer.

Other items include gymnasium re-hab at PCHS ($550,000), replacing the remaining roof at the high school ($3.9 million), replacing of fencing at PCHS, removal of remaining asbestos tile at Dublin, replacement of a chiller at Snowville Elementary and security upgrades.
