Anthony Gene Lewis passed away in the early morning of Sunday, October , at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Anthony was born April 23, 1948 in Radford, Virginia. He was the son of the late Ray Whitfield Lewis, Sr. and Regina Casey Lewis.

Anthony spent his early life in a loving home in New River, VA which included eleven other siblings and a hosts of nephews and nieces living nearby. He attended William Gresham Elementary School, Christiansburg Institute (CI), and graduated from Dublin High School in 1966.

After spending four years in the U.S. Navy, Anthony settled in Norfolk, VA for the next 50 years of his life. He spent much of that time involved in printing as a profession, but, his true passion was community activism and involvement in the Social Justice Movement. Along that path he served his community, and developed many lifelong political and personal friendships that he greatly cherished.

Anthony (Tony) was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Regina Lewis, sisters Christine Lewis Wright, Valerie Lewis Morton, Eliza Lewis Charlton, Caroline Lewis Manns, and his brothers Ray Whitfield Lewis, Jr., Leander Vernal Lewis, Joel Rodney Lewis, and James Waldeck Lewis.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister, LaVerne Lewis Brown, NY, two brothers, Walter Sandy Lewis, Sr. and Richard Courtney Lewis and wife Teri, New River, VA. Also left to remember and cherish his selfish life of service are a great host of loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews as well as other relatives and wonderful friends, especially those with whom he worked in the Norfolk community.

The Memorial Service for Anthony Lewis will be held on Saturday, October 28, at First Missionary
Baptist Church New River. The visitation will take place at 12:00 follow by the Memorial Service at
1:00 PM. Internment will be at the New River Community Cemetery.
