Betty Correll Dowdy

dowdy betty correllBetty Sue Corell Dowdy, age 85 of Dublin, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. Corell and Leah Sue Ballard:  sister, Eileen T. Martin:  brother- Jim Corell:  and her husband, Norman W. Dowdy.

She was a member of New Dublin Presbyterian Church.  Betty was employed as a switchboard operator at C&P in Radford, then at Pulaski Hospital ER as a switchboard operator.  Then finally where she retired at Radford Carilion St. Albans Hospital as an admissions clerk and switchboard operator.

Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed sitting on the front porch during her retirement years talking with her very special and dear neighbors. Betty was known for always wanting to give advice and loved talking on the phone.  She is especially known for making her special macaroni salad and beef stew; that only she could make.

She is survived by two daughters: Sandy Dowdy Singleton, Tammy Dowdy (Eddie) Sayers, each from Dublin; one son: Norman “Buck” (Christy) Dowdy from Dublin.

Four Grandchildren: Holly Dowdy of Dublin, Zane Yopp of Salem, Jed Singleton (Callie) of Pulaski, and Ciara Smith (Corey) of Christiansburg. Four Great Grandchildren: Landyn Hughes, Rory Singleton, Boone and Maren Smith.

Special family and friends we would like to recognize are: Dinah Toney, Betty Ann Robertson, Joey Earles, Shirley Martin, Mary Hall, Jim Cook, and all her special friends that are too abundant to mention.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 12 Noon at First Christian Church (DOC), 524 North Jefferson Avenue Pulaski, VA 24301.  Interment will be held privately at New Dublin Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. until 12 noon.
