Burlington Sock Puppets lost the lead late in a 5-2 defeat to Pulaski River Turtles on Wednesday. The game was tied at one with Pulaski River Turtles batting in the top of the eighth when Evan Minarovic doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
In the top of the seventh inning, Pulaski River Turtles tied things up at one when Cameron Leary hit a solo homer.
After Pulaski River Turtles scored one run in the top of the ninth, Burlington Sock Puppets answered with one of their own. Pulaski River Turtles scored when John Bay hit a solo homer. Burlington Sock Puppets then answered when Mason Speaker doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Joan Jesus Gonzalez pitched Pulaski River Turtles to victory. The righthander allowed five hits and one run over six innings, striking out 11. Dalton Ross and Carter Lyles entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Winkelmeyer went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Burlington Sock Puppets in hits. Burlington Sock Puppets didn’t commit a single error in the field. Caleb Farmer had 12 chances in the field, the most on the team.
