Calfee Launches Photographer’s Eye Workshop
Pulaski, Va. — The Calfee Center is launching its new Venable Digital Lab with Photographer’s Eye, a four-week photography workshop designed to help beginners develop their skills in composition, lighting, and visual storytelling.
The workshop begins Saturday, September 12, and will meet for four consecutive Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Led by local videographer and photographer Mark Spraker, the course is designed for beginners and anyone who wants to become more intentional about the photographs they take. Participants will learn the basics of composition and lighting while developing a stronger eye for visual storytelling using the camera they already have.
The Venable Digital Lab is named in honor of Dorothy DeBerry Venable, a former Pulaski County Public Schools teacher who began her career at the Calfee Training School. The lab continues the school’s tradition of providing young people and community members with opportunities to develop practical skills, creativity, and confidence.
“Photography is ultimately about learning how to see,” said Jill Williams, executive director of the Calfee Community & Cultural Center. “Photographer’s Eye is a great introduction to what we hope will become a much broader range of digital storytelling opportunities at Calfee.”
The workshop is the first in a series of classes planned through the Venable Digital Lab, with future offerings exploring photography, digital media, and storytelling.
