Celebrating Nursing Excellence: HCA Healthcare’s Unit of Distinction Awards Announced

HCA Healthcare’s more than 93,000 nurses are at the forefront of the commitment to the care and improvement of human life. Last week, HCA Healthcare celebrated top-performing nursing units that are raising the bar for the nursing profession at its 6th annual HCA Healthcare Unit of Distinction Award Ceremony.

Launched in 2015, the HCA Healthcare Unit of Distinction program celebrates the individual departments that are defining nursing excellence through nursing-specific indicators and departmental performance. These teams and leaders are actively partnering and collaborating with patient care teams to problem solve and create best practices within their local organizations. In 2021, more than 2,000 HCA Healthcare nursing units participated in the Unit of Distinction program.

In a ceremony broadcast from HCA Healthcare’s headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, a total of 202 nursing units were recognized as top-performing nursing units. Units of Distinction are categorized in the top five percent of all HCA Healthcare medical surgical, critical care, emergency services, surgical services, behavioral health, women’s and children’s nursing units, pediatrics/PICU and inpatient rehabilitation units. The top six to ten percent of all HCA Healthcare units earned honorable mention designations.

“These accolades, though linked to specific departments, are a collective badge of honor,” said Sean Pressman, chief executive officer. “No one wins an award or achieves results like we have without the efforts of every person who puts on an employee badge when they come to work. These awards are a testament of the commitment to our patients and the community.”

LewisGale Hospital Pulaski Perioperative Services took home a top award for all of HCA Healthcare in the Surgical Services category. The following LewisGale Hospital Pulaski nursing units were recognized as exemplary in 2021:
