Chase beginning in Radford ends on Lyon Road in Dublin

On July 11, 2019 Radford City Police Officer C.R. Benson attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu in the 500 block Rock Road in the City of Radford. The driver of the vehicle began to elude the officer, and a pursuit was initiated by the officer.

The pursuit then led onto southbound Interstate 81 at the 105 exit. The offender then exited I-81 travelled on to exit 101 where it exited and proceeded onto Wilderness and Lyon Roads, where the offender crashed his vehicle in a ditch. The offender then attempted to flee on foot, but was captured by the Radford City Police Department and members of the Virginia State Police. There were no injuries in the crash.

The offender is identified as Steven M. Parks, age 36, of Radford Virginia. He has been charged with violating Virginia Code sections 46.2-301 – Driving on a suspended license after previously being suspended for a DUI (misdemeanor), 46.2- 817 – Eluding a police officer (felony), and 18.2-248 – Possession with intent to distribute Methamphetamine (felony). He was remanded to the New River Valley Regional Jail on no bond. There will be no other information released in regards to this case.
