Chase through Pulaski County ends near N.C. line

Shortly after 5 a.m. Sunday (March 13), the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office notified the Virginia State Police of a pursuit their deputies were involved in on Interstate 81. As the pursuit entered into Pulaski County, the Virginia State Police took the lead. The suspect vehicle, a Chrysler 300, continued south onto I-77 as it continued to flee from law enforcement. When the Chrysler attempted to take the I-77 ramp for Exit 8 in Carroll County, it struck a tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder. The crash occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m.

The Chrysler’s front-seat male passenger was ejected from the vehicle in the crash. He and the driver have been flown to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Two remaining male passengers are being treated at Twin County Hospital in Galax, Va., for serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured in the crash. No law enforcement were injured during the course of the incident.

Charges are still pending at this time. Two firearms were recovered from the Chrysler.
