Christiansburg man arrested after standoff with law officers

On June 11, 2020, around 10:25 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 3700 block of Childress Road In the Riner area of the county for a physical domestic situation. When deputies entered the residence, they encountered gunfire and subsequently returned fire. No deputies, nor the suspect were injured during the exchange.

Crisis negotiators responded to the scene, after the suspect barricaded himself inside the residence. Communication was maintained for over six and a half hours and shortly before 5 a.m. on June 12, 2020  the suspect surrendered to law enforcement without further incident.

45-year-old Jammie Duncan of Christiansburg was taken into custody and has been charged with attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer. Additional charges are expected, pending further investigation of the incident.
