Community Foundation of the New River Valley announces GiveBigNRV: An Online Giving Day to Help Organizations Big and Small

Nonprofits from all over the New River Valley will come together for the 5th annual online giving day, otherwise known as GiveBigNRV this April 18th.

This innovative online fundraising event encourages New River Valley residents to donate as much money as possible in support of their favorite local charities in just twenty-four hours. This year over 125 nonprofit organizations are participating.

Collectively in 2017, participating organizations raised over $220,000 for 115 organizations in just 24 hours. Close to 2,000 donors participated, contributing from $10 to $10,000. This year the Community Foundation of the New River Valley has set a 2018 fundraising goal of $250,000.

“The goals of our online giving day are to provide area nonprofits with an online presence, to expand their donor base, and to increase the dollars raised for important community work. These gifts will help area organizations work more smoothly, enable innovation, provide fuel for growth and just allow them to spend more time doing what they do best—serving the needs of our community”, notes Kim Thurlow, Director of Community Programs at the Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV).

The Community Foundation does not receive any fee income from the giving day, but does provide technical assistance and social media training to all participating nonprofits. This year, The CFNRV will also offer over $10,000 in Giving Day incentive prizes to organizations that raise the most money in each county, the greatest number of unique donors, 100% board donations, and the best video to promote their organization. Many local donors, including National Bank, help make these incentive prizes possible. The CFNRV will hold a kick-off event for the Giving Day and its Fund for the NRV Initiative on April 17th from 5-7pm at the Alexander Black House in Blacksburg.

GiveBigNRV begins at midnight EST on April 18th and continue until 11:59 p.m. on that same day. Donors can go online to cfnrv.givebig.org to connect with causes they care about and make tax-deductible donations to support the important work of their favorite New River Valley nonprofits. Gifts can even be prescheduled at any time leading up to the giving day.
