Community Wildfire Preparedness Day event held at Randolph Park

On May 4th a Community Wildfire Preparedness Day workshop was held at Randolph Park with 38 attendees.
Interagency Cooperation between the Virginia Dept. of Forestry, Pulaski County Emergency Management, Virginia Tech Fire Ecology, New River Valley/Highlands RC&D and local Fire Departments made this event a success. Ten different communities from five different counties was represented with four fire departments from three counties and one City was in attendance as well.
Workshop topics included Wildland Fire History on the Landscape, 2016 Chimney Tops 2 Fire Review, Firewise Program, Ready-Set-Go Program, Fire Adapted Communities and included a walking tour of a recent prescribed burn area to demonstrate the effects of good fire.
Lot’s of net-working was done over lunch that was provided by VA Dept. of Forestry’s Fire and Emergency Response Branch.
