Cougar girls drop opener, 59-41

Defending region champion and 2019 Class 4 state finalist Pulaski County did not open its season on a positive note Wednesday evening in Hillsville as Carroll County, the team they defeated in the state semi-final last year, soundly defeated the Cougar ladies, 59-41.
It should also be noted that PCHS will be forced to play most of if not all of the 2019 portion of its schedule without the services of its two returning frontline starters, Ally Fleenor and Tara Blankenship. Both suffered off season knee injuries.
Abigale Kennedy with 18 points and 15 rebounds led the Cavaliers winning effort, and her team steadily pulled away in the second half. Jaelyn King and Kalee Easter added 13 and 10 points for the Cavs.
Pulaski County was led by Maddie Ratcliff with 17 points, but no other Cougar managed double figures. Kassidy Secrist scored six, Keslyn Secrist five, Erin Russell four, Paige Huff 4, Courtney Creggar 3, and Alaina Akers 2.
