Pulaski Town Council, Mayor David Clark and Town Manager Shawn Utt pose for a photo with town residents who attended the former Calfee Training School and supporters of the development of the community center. Tuesday night, council approved a resolution granting the Calfee project a Community Impact Grant equal to the amount of town real estate taxes owed against the building by the current owner – about $15,000. The Pulaski County Board of Supervisors recently approved a similar grant for county taxes owed against the building – just over $26,000. Payment of the taxes clears the way for the Pulaski Re-Development and Housing Authority to take over the property, which will allow a community group to continue its work in transforming the former school into a community center. Plans are for the facility to be turned into a needed childcare facility, office space for local non-profits and a museum for the African-American community.
