First responders, dispatcher assist woman in delivering her baby in vehicle

On October 7, 2018 at approximately 8:15 pm, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and REMSI were dispatched to the I-81 off ramp at Exit 92 in Draper in reference to a female in labor.

Sgt. Nelson and Deputy Farris were the first to arrive on scene and found a male subject outside the vehicle who advised the female in the passenger’s seat was in labor. Deputy Farris spoke with the female and began to assist the female in delivering her baby inside the vehicle.

The first REMSI Ambulance arrived on scene and determined the child needed to be transported to the hospital.

Due to the number of patients, Sgt. Nelson drove the REMSI Vehicle to the hospital allowing one of the rescue personnel to stay with Deputy Farris and the mother of the child, who was also in need of medical attention.

A special thanks to 911 Center Dispatcher Amanda Giampocaro who assisted the couple by phone until help could arrive, and to the REMSI Staff for their assistance during this unique call for service.

This call is a perfect example of the teamwork that takes place every day among our first responders and a fine example of a job well done by all.
