Griffith Statement on Governor Youngkin Tenure

Friday, January 16, 2026 – Ahead of attending the Saturday inauguration of Virginia’s next governor, U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“Governor Youngkin helped deliver great successes during his four years in office. Because of his service to the Commonwealth, I appreciated working with him and his team to deliver support to the people of Southwest Virginia. We thank Governor Youngkin for his strong leadership, pro-growth policies and dedicated service to our region.
“As the Congressman of Virginia’s Ninth District, I will be attending the inauguration of Virginia’s next governor, Abigail Spanberger. Southwest, Southside and Central Virginia are regions full of rural communities that need the attention of our next governor. While I will continue to work to make sure their voices are heard at the federal level, I trust that Governor-elect Spanberger will do the same at the state level.”

Congressman Griffith,
Will you and other Republicans stand up to Trump on the Greenland issue ? He is making the US the laughing stock of the world. Do you agree with his use of ICE in cities and states who have said they do not want them ? Do you approve of the violent way ICE is treating citizens ? As I understand it they are suppose to be targeting criminals and gang members yet they are “man handling” innocent people.
I voted for you and Trump but I am most disappointed in the President in much of the actions he has taken. He braggs about the wonderful economy yet groceries prices continue to raise and many are having trouble affording
the foods they need. The only good thing I can see to benefit the regular citizens is the low gas prices.
I am also most concerned about actions Congress may take about wildlife conservation. My understanding is that the President wants to roll back many the protections so as to facilitate fossil fuels.
Respectfully,
Mary L Boone
