Tech earns highest preseason ranking in program history

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team will begin its 2022-23 season ranked in the AP Poll, where they were selected 13th by voters Tuesday. This mark eclipses the 1999 team’s 17th ranking as the best ever in the preseason AP Poll.

This marks just the third time that the Hokies will begin the season as a ranked squad following last season and the 1999 squad. The Hokies ended the 2022 season ranked 16th in the poll after a record-breaking season that saw them win 13 ACC games, five ranked games, and saw Elizabeth Kitley win ACC Player of the Year in addition to Aisha Sheppard breaking the school scoring record and the ACC’s 3-point record.

The Preseason All-ACC Team, Newcomer Watch List and predicted order of finish for the Hokies and their peers in the conference will be announced live on the ACC Network’s ACC PM on Wednesday October 19 between 4 and 7 p.m.

Tech will open the season at home on Monday November 7, when they welcome Mount St. Mary’s to Carilion Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum for a 5 p.m. tip against the Mountaineers. That game can be seen on ACC Network Extra.
