Kollmorgen’s parent company sold

The parent company of Kollmorgen, with two facilities in Radford and employing a reported 400 employees locally, has been sold.
Altra Industrial Motion, which owned Kollmorgen, has been acquired by Regal Rexnord, a leading producer of motors and related components.
“The addition of Altra will mark an important milestone in Regal Rexnord’s ongoing journey to become a higher-performing enterprise, and one with a more balanced portfolio of differentiated products and solutions that solve our customers’ challenges by ‘energy-efficiently’ converting power into motion,” said Regal Rexnord CEO Louis Pinkham.
Altra designs and manufactures a wide range of highly engineered motion control, automation, and power transmission solutions.
Based in Braintree, Massachusetts, Altra has more than 9,000 associates and 47 production facilities in 17 countries around the world and generates $1.9 billion in sales.
Regal Rexnord products, according to its website, impacts people’s lives every day.

Kollmorgen originally came to Radford in the late 1950’s when Hugo Unruh brought his Inland Motor company to 501 First Street. In 1960, Inland and Kollmorgen, who Unruh previously worked for, merged into one company – Kollmorgen Corporation.
Regal Rexnord, headquartered in Beloit, Wisconsin is a global company with over 220 facilities employing some 36,000 employees including 10,500 in Mexico, 9,600 in the U.S., 3,800 in China, 4,400 in India and 7,800 around the world.
