LewisGale Hospital Pulaski Honors Trina Sluss, NP, with Compass Award
PULASKI, Va. – LewisGale Hospital Pulaski recently recognized Trina Sluss, nurse practitioner, as its Second Quarter 2026 Compass Award recipient, honoring her extraordinary compassion, patient advocacy and commitment to caring like family.
A grateful family member nominated Sluss after witnessing the extraordinary care and compassion she provided to her husband following his hospital stay. After reviewing follow up lab results, Sluss recognized that the patient needed a specific over the counter medication. Knowing his wife was out of town, Sluss purchased the medication herself and personally delivered it to the patient’s home, refusing reimbursement.
“Trina did not just manage a discharge; she provided a safety net woven from pure compassion,” the family member shared in the nomination. “She embodies every single value the Compass Award stands for.”
The Compass Award recognizes LewisGale Hospital Pulaski physicians and advanced practice providers who demonstrate empathy, compassion, exceptional communication and clinical aptitude while positively impacting patient care. The award represents guiding patient care, providing direction and helping patients and families navigate challenging times.
Sluss was celebrated by hospital leaders and colleagues for extending her care beyond the hospital walls and making a meaningful difference for a patient and his family.
