Man charged in shooting death of step-son in Barren Springs

A man is dead following a shooting incident Saturday night in Barren Springs.

According to Major Anthony Cline with the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at 8:09 p.m. the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office received a call to a residence at 176 Vineland Drive in the Barren Springs Community about a shooting. Deputies were advised that one male had a gunshot wound to the chest.

Deputies arrived on the scene and found one male deceased. The suspect was also on the scene and he was taken into custody. This incident is being investigated as a homicide from domestic violence.

Deceased is Chad Allan Norris, 30 who was found in the yard in front of the residence.

The suspect, Joel Perries Hosey, 61 was found inside the residence. He was taken into custody.

Cline said the incident appears to be the result of domestic violence. Norris is the step-son to the suspect, Hosey.

Hosey faces charges of Second Degree Murder and Use of Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.

Cline said Hosey has been held without bond and is being held at the New River Regional Jail.
