Max Meadows man charged in shooting incident

On Friday, December 11, 2020, the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office was contacted when a male came to the Wythe County Community Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Deputies arrived at WCCH and found James Collins with a gunshot wound to his left arm. Collins told deputies that he was shot by James Calvin Hunley at a residence on Blades Trail in the Max Meadows community.

Deputies went to the alleged residence where the shooting occurred and found Hunley. He was taken into custody. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence. During the search items were found that are consistent with the distribution of methamphetamine.

A firearm was recovered at 298 Moss Lane in the Max Meadows community. According to the homeowner, Hunley brought a gun to this residence after the shooting. Hunley, who had recently been released from prison, is a convicted felon and could not legally possess a firearm.

Hunley, of  147 Blades Trail, Max Meadows, was charged with Malicious Wounding; Use of a Firearm in the commission of a Felony; Possession of Methamphetamine, and  Possess a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
