Meet This Week’s Patriot – Alanna Crowder
Alanna Crowder served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954. She started out working at the Pentagon and then was sent to Germany and earned the rank of Sergeant working as a Crypto Operator during her time of service. A cryptograph is a device for coding and decoding messages. While she was in Germany, she met her husband who was serving in the military. Once they came out of service they moved to Michigan where they were married in 1955. She and her husband raised 2 sons and a daughter. She worked as a telephone operator for various companies after she came out of the military and her job with AT&T is what brought them from Michigan to Virginia. She retired from AT&T in 1980. She currently holds the title of a Charter Member of the Women’s Memorial Foundation in Washington, D.C., and at the young age of 89 she is a very active member of the VFW 1184 Post Honor Guard and is a member of the American Legion Post 58 of Dublin. She currently lives in Dublin with her son and her beloved dachshund, “Angel.”
