MLB, USA Baseball to announce new format for Appalachian League in video conference Tuesday

Plan Retains High-Level Baseball in the Region for the Long-Term Under Appalachian League Banner

Adds New Opportunities for Players, Teams, Fans and Communities

On Tuesday, September 29 at 12:00 p.m. (ET), Major League Baseball and USA Baseball will hold a joint video press conference to announce a new format for the Appalachian League. The event will detail the plan to retain high-caliber baseball in the communities where it is currently being played under the Appalachian League brand while bringing new, modern approaches to player development and exciting partnerships and opportunities for teams, fans and communities. The plan calls for the nation’s top rising college freshmen and sophomores to take part in wood-bat play each summer. The parties are in communication with the NCAA to ensure athlete eligibility requirements are met.

Speakers will discuss the new format for the league and take questions from members of the media.
