Most Valuable Cougar nominees announced
The first nominee is a member of the National Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. This student participates in track and football. This past summer he participated in the Virginia Tech Pathways Scholar summer program. He is the captain of the track throwing team and loves to fish and hunt. Our first nominee for the Most Valuable Cougar is Mr Tristan Bowden. Tristan is the son of Jeff and Michelle Bowden.
The second nominee is an active participant in multiple sports. This student ran track during the tenth grade year and played basketball during the ninth and eleventh grade years. This student is a decorated athlete in football. He has held a starting position with the varsity football team since the tenth grade. He has also received numerous football awards specifically including for the 2018 season, River Ridge first team for defense and offense, 4D All-region first team for defense and offense and the 2018 Football Player of the Year. Our second nominee for the Most Valuable Cougar is Mr. Gage Mannon. Gage is the son of Tim and Melinda Mannon.
The third nominee is a member of the National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of the varsity basketball team for four years. An active volunteer, she works with organizations like, the Rock Youth Center, City of Refuge Atlanta and Jamaica, as well as Bright Futures Atlanta and the “Renew the New” River clean up. She is a DAR Good Citizen nominee and is the senior class president. The third nominee for the Most Valuable Cougar is Ms Alaina Akers. Alaina is the daughter of Anthony and Jody Akers.
The fourth nominee served as a graduation marshal and is a member of the National Honor Society. A volunteer with the City of Refuge in Atlanta and with Operation Christmas Child. This student is a four year participant in track, basketball and football including being a senior captain of the football team. Our fourth nominee for the Most Valuable Cougar is Mr Luke Russell. Luke is the son of Dean and Gina Russell.
The fifth nominee is a member of the National Honor Society. This student participates in both indoor and outdoor track as well as played football for two years. He volunteers at Community Table, Radford Clothes Closet and the Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread. This student also participates in missions trips with Passport Camps. He has served as class president, a student council member and Superintendent’s Advisory Council member. He was a Boys State representative this past summer. Our fifth nominee for the Most Valuable Cougar is Mr Evan Winesett. Evan is the son of Brad and Martha Winesett.
The sixth nominee is a National Honor Society member and earned the recognition of NRCC’s Presidents List. A member of HOSA, FFA, the Caving Club and Young Life. A four year cheerleader serving as captain and co-captain since her tenth grade year. A volunteer at Count Pulaski Day, the Pumpkin Patch and Dublin Middle School. She participates in Students vs Cancer events and Relay for Life. She is a DAR Good Citizen nominee and is currently co-organizing a new club at PCHS called Students vs Cancer, the sixth and final Most Valuable Cougar Nominee is Ms Rachel Bird. Rachel is the daughter of Dennis and Shelly Bird.
