Non-Profits serving Pulaski County participate in GiveLocalNRV Giving Day

Christiansburg, Virginia: The Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV) will hold its 9Th annual online GiveLocalNRV Giving Day on Wednesday, June 22nd. More than 100 nonprofits serving the New River Valley are participating this year to raise funds and awareness for their work, including 15 organizations that operate from and serve residents in Pulaski County. An additional 45 organizations participating in the event also serve the county. Each year, the event engages hundreds of donors in giving to their favorite nonprofits.

Since the event began in 2012, organizations across the New River Valley have collectively raised more than $2.1 million from generous supporters. Last year, nearly 1,800 people donated $519,000+ during the Giving Day. This year, the GiveLocalNRV goal is to raise a total of $550,000 for the 106 participating nonprofits. Early giving kicked off for the event on June 1 and nearly 300 donors have already given more than $71,000.

“Part of the excitement of Giving Day is a donor’s gift can go farther than any other day of the year because of the day’s incentive grants and prizes as well as matching donations for specific nonprofits,” said Jessica Wirgau, the CFNRV’s Chief Executive Officer. “Between the CFNRV’s incentives and generous donors stepping up to match donations, there are so many ways to maximize the impact of your gift.”

This year, ten generous corporate sponsors came together to provide $15,000 in incentive grants and prizes: National Bank of Blacksburg, Carter Bank and Trust, Hethwood Apartment Homes by HHHunt, First Bank and Trust Company, Olio Financial Planning, Atlantic Union Bank, the Maroon Door, Member One Federal Credit Union, Brown Edwards, Brown Insurance, and Hurt and Proffitt.

Community members are invited to join the CFNRV and other nonprofits for a “Giving Day Eve” celebration on Tuesday, June 21st at The Maroon Door in Blacksburg anytime from 4 – 7 p.m. The foundation will provide appetizers and guests are invited to buy their own drinks.

Any donation received through GiveLocalNRV between June 1st and June 22nd will count towards an organization’s giving day total. Donate online today to support your favorite nonprofits at givelocalnrv.org.
