Obituary for Aaron M. “Marty” McKinney

Aaron M. “Marty” McKinney, age 50, of Max Meadows (the Locust Hill Community) passed away peacefully on Friday April 29, 2022 at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem, VA. His family was with him at the time of his passing.

Marty was born July 3, 1971 in Pulaski County, VA and was preceded in death by his father, Freddrick H. McKinney and mother, Mary L. McKinney of Max Meadows and brother, Michael L. Lefler also of Max Meadows.

Survivors include his sister, Donna Clark of Max Meadows; niece, Ashley and Roger Funk of Dublin, VA; great-niece, Erica and Charles Phillips of Roanoke; four precious great-great nephews, Christian, Alex, Michael and John of Roanoke; aunt Stella Cox of Rural Retreat, VA and aunt and uncle A.J. and Snowdeer Peake of Pulaski; two special cousins, Dane Peake of Roanoke and Ernie and Rachel Peake of Nashville, TN. A host of cousins also survive.

Marty attended the Locust Hill United Methodist Church in Max Meadows. He graduated from Fort Chiswell High School and worked as a carpet installer for many years. Marty wanted to be remembered as a friendly, outgoing person who never met a stranger and was willing to help a friend. He was like a big teddy bear that loved children and enjoyed being around them. Marty enjoyed the outdoors and always appreciated the grandeur and beauty of our Lord’s marvelous creation.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening, May 9, 2022 at the Barnett Funeral Home Parlor.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 10^th  at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pulaski with the Reverend Rick Lindamood and Lay Speaker Mrs. Juanita Stroupe officiating.
