Obituary for Cora Lee Marshall Cox Martin

Cora Lee Marshall Cox Martin, age 91, departed this life Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Carrington House Nursing Home in Wytheville, VA after an extended illness. She was born in Pulaski, Virginia on February 21, 1927 to William Marshall and Rosella Hollie. Being the oldest child of 11 children, she learned the value of hard work at an early age and followed that work ethic her entire life. Her favorite activity was ironing clothes and she laundered shirts for several prominent business men in the area. She loved to sew and created many beautiful outfits for her family and friends and later started taking orders for special outfits and doing almost impossible alterations in her tiny shop in her home.

She was formerly educated in the Pulaski County School system

and completed the 8th grade at Calfee Training school in Pulaski, VA.

She married Edward Cox of Pulaski, VA and as a result of that union she became the loving mother of two sons, Robert (Bobby) Cox and David Cox. She later married Herman L. Martin after the untimely death of Edward.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; 5 sisters, Sarah Louise Calloway, Elizabeth Collins, Shirley Brooks, Josephine Rollins, Lila Burks and two brothers, William A. Marshall and Joseph S. Marshall.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Bobby (Sunshine Blair-Cox), Kingsport TN, David (Shelia Cox) Staunton VA; three sisters, Ruth Bellfield, Rocky Mount, NC, Mary Lovingood, Peoria Il, Rosell M. Henry, Alexandria VA.; five grandchildren, Ruby Lemon, Kingsport TN,

Robert Cox Jr. Johnson City, TN, Rebekah Marshall, Nashville, TN., Caden Blair, Kingsport, TN, and Ryan Blair-Cox, Kingsport, TN; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grand child; one special niece, Rosemma (Everett Grubb), Pulaski, VA, who was always close to help with anything and one special care giver Diane Muncy who quickly became a valuable and loving member of the family and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was a devout member of the Jehovah Witness faith and attended the Kingdom Hall in Pulaski VA. When the time came that she could no longer drive, members of the congregation would come and take her to her meetings where she had a bounty of friends from the congregation.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 24, 2018 at 12:00 Noon from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Owen McKinney officiating.  Interment will follow in Pinehurst Cemetery, Pulaski.  Visiting will be Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the service hour.  In lieu of flowers the family wishes memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2728 Colonial Ave., Suite 2, Roanoke, VA 24015.Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, VA.
